Terry Schmitt has served on the West Hartford Board of Education since 2003. He is currently one of two financial examiners. He also sits on the Board Policy review committee, as well as the Board negotiations committee. He represents West Hartford on the Capitol Region Educational Council for seven years where he is Secretary/Treasurer, and has served on the West Hartford Substance Abuse Prevention Council, University of Hartford Magnet School Board, Hopeworks, and Connecticut Association of Boards of Education.
Before being elected to the Board of Education, Mr. Schmitt served for three years on the town’s Parent-Teacher Council and for several years on the Smith School PTO.
Mr. Schmitt is an ordained member of the United Church of Christ, and was the Senior Minister at Center Congregational Church in Manchester for the last eleven years. Prior to that, he was a Project Director at the Program for Non-Profit Organizations at Yale University, as well as interim minister at several Connecticut churches.
Mr. Schmitt went to Yale University for his Ph.D. in Sociology, Eden Theological Seminary for his M.Div, and to Brown University for his A.B. His family and he have lived in West Hartford since 1996.
