
The Conard Art Department is pleased to announce that Felipe DiPoi has earned national recognition and a $10,000 National Portfolio Gold Medal Scholarship in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2012. Out of the 4,490 Art Portfolios submitted, 811 earned Gold Keys qualifying them for national judging.
The jurors felt that Felipe's body of work exemplifies the core judging criteria of 'originality, technical skill, and emergence of a personal vision."
The Scholastic Art& Writing Awards are the nation's largest, longest-running and most prestigious scholarship and recognition program for teenage artists and writers. By winning a Scholastic Award Felipe joins a legacy of celebrated authors and artists such a Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, and Richard Avedon, to name a few.
Felipe, his parents, Ms. Kennedy and Mrs. Ellis attended an award ceremony at the world-famous Carnegie Hall on June 1.
Three-time Academy Award®-winning actress Meryl Streep, and renowned artist Edward Sorel shared the spotlight at Carnegie Hall with the nation’s future in creativity-- the talented and ambitious teens who achieved national honors in the 89th annual Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. More than 800 teens and their families and teachers, representing 46 states, ... attended the celebration, including 15 graduating seniors who ... received Portfolio Gold Medals and $10,000 scholarships."
Felipe is one of those 15. There was a full page ad in the New York Times on Thursday, 5/31, page A19. The Empire State Building was lit up in gold on the occasion of the 89th Scholastic Art & Writing National Awards. Felipe's work is featured prominently in the Scholastic exhibition at Parsons School of Design until June 16. His Gold Portfolio placed among the top 6 in the nation!
