Technology Education
Mission
In a society of fast-paced technological change, the Technology Education Program strives to provide students with the tools and skills that will enable them to attain a level of technological literacy and proficiency that will allow them to be productive citizens, who are able to make informed decisions about technology. The program also provides experiences where students use resources to solve real-world problems in order to prepare them to continuously meet future challenges that will require creative, working solutions. The underlying theme of the Technology Education program is: Technology, Innovation, Design, and Engineering.
Goals
Technology Education is a comprehensive, competency-based instructional program that enables students to:
- Understand the historical foundations of technical knowledge
- Develop technological literacy including computer competencies
- Learn and apply cognitive problem solving skills using research, design, production, and evaluation of technological systems
- Safely and effectively use resources, processes, concepts, and tools of technology
- Develop proficient use of current technology as used in a global competitive economic community
- Experience cooperative learning in a diverse environment
- Evaluate the effects of existing and emerging technologies on people, society, and the environment
- Understand the influences of technology on consumer and career choices
- Understand and apply design principles and the engineering design process
- Develop career awareness, technological knowledge, and related skills so they can make viable career choices and become employable in a variety of technology careers, facilitating the transition from school to career
